My most embarrassing moment

Every Friday, Meredith answers your questions -- feel free to post a question of your own for next week!

I was just wondering if you found any reason for your 5 miscarriages that enabled you to go on to have three beautiful children. I appreciate any additional insight you can share.
Posted by Kate on October 15

My problem had nothing to do with conceiving. I could get pregnant, I just couldn’t hold the pregnancy. It turned out I had a problem with the lining of my uterus and my OBGYN put me on progesterone suppositories.

A few days later, I went back to my doctor, very confused. I couldn’t figure out how putting suppositories up your bum could help you keep a pregnancy. And then the most embarrassing moment of my life occurred: The doctor said “Meredith, the suppositories, are meant to go into your vagina.”

Now that I figured out the difference between a vagina and a you-know-what…I have three beautiful children.

If you had to interview yourself, what questions would you ask?

The #1 question I’d ask myself would have to be:

Meredith, do you know the difference between a vagina and a you-know-what?

Seriously, I’m stumped by your question. There are things I ask myself every day…Am I doing the best job I can as a mom? Am I doing the best job I can in my professional life? And what the heck was I thinking when I agreed to do this blog? It’s hard!

Hi Meredith! I love you! What is the most important thing you can teach your children?

Meredith, I just love reading your blog everyday and appreciate that you take the time to do so. As a young woman focused on her career, yet to be married or a mom, you're such an inspiration for what's to come in life, and how to do it right.
Thanks for writing.

Why do you always leave the TODAY show at 9:00? ...I think your doing a great job... I've watched you on Millionaire and on the View for FOREVER!!!!!!!!!

Meredith, good afternoon, if you had a chance to interview someone who has made a positive impact in the world, who would you like to interview (alive or deceased)?

Hi Meredith! I know it is hard to keep up with a blog along with everything else you do, but just know that it is really appreciated. I am loving getting to know you by all the things that you write. Today you gave me a good laugh! Thanks!

Meredith: I really enjoy your blog, and I have a shortcut to it on my desktop so I can read it daily. But what I really wanted to say was just how very much I have enjoyed watching you on the Today show. You are such a breath of fresh air - your rapport with Matt, Al & Ann seems genuine and is very endearing; and yes I liked Katie - but I think you've taken the show up a notch. I can't tell you how much it means to a non-morning person like me to get up to a show that puts me in a positive frame of mind for the rest of the day. "You go girl" - I think you are doing a fantastic job - can't wait to see you on Halloween!

Sorry, I didn't mean to stump you! and thanks for your response, you answered my question and gave me food for thought. In the never ending quest to live life well, perhaps the best question I can ask myself is, am I being the best person I can be on a daily basis, and if not, what can I do better?

And hey, don't worry about the you-know-what--did anybody ever get confused about what to do with a female condom?

Answer to Gail's blog. The reason she stops at 9.00am is that on her contract
with Millionaire she cannot do TV during the day 9.00am to 6.oopm.
I am sure when her contract winds up in 2008 for millionaire she would go till 10.00am
I found out the answer last night on a web site I presume it is true because the writer is well know
Hope this answer your question.
Have you noticed that Matt stops at 9.05am.
There is another possible reason she just started 7weeks ago and it's a lot of work to prepare and get ready and I am sure you've noticed they are starting to get in a groove all 4 of them.

Hi Meredith...oh how I wish I could watch you on the Today show! I lived in the U.S for seven years and just LOVED you on the View and Millionaire. You never ceased to make me laugh with your humour and insight. Now that I'm back in Japan I'm "homesick" for seeing my favourite shows..but your blog is the next best thing.

Meredith, you've managed to get me out of lurkerdom, twice in one day. I had to comment on this most recent entry. I couldn't help but laugh out loud and in the process spew water all over my keyboard. You're a riot! This is why we love you. The fact that you're approachable and are willing to share personal, albeit embarassing moments with us. I echo the sentiments of all here who say that while we appreciate this blog, we know it's hardwork. Thank you for taking time out of your hectic day to share a little something of yourself with us. You have to continue blogging.

I have a question and this might get into some legalities so forgive me if I overstep boundaries. A lot of people have been wondering why you're not on in the 9 am hour. I understand it's because of the non-compete clause in your contract with Buena Vista (distributor of Millionare). If this is the case, how are you able to host the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade? I was thrilled to hear you say you will be joining Matt and Al for the parade.

HELLOOOOOOO! Merideth,
This is so freakin cool! My first time on a blog and it happens to be yours. Too Cool. Any way, Thanks for the laughter. You know as well as I do that some days are harder than others and this happened to be one of my lousy ones so for the shear fun of unloading my over-stressed mind I decided to check back into ivillage for support and low and behold there's this link to your blog. I figured "shoot how hard can this thing be"? The next thing I know I'm rotflmao :) litteraly. I really needed that deep down belly laugh to take the edge off of an otherwise rotten day. Thanks girlfriend and PLEASE hang in there with this blog thing... even thou it's a challenge to conquer...it made the difference in my day. Thanks so much! Congrats with the superb work on Today, Your a perfect fit! OH? one more thing...Do you think you could handle being a contender on Dancing with the stars? I think you'd be outstanding and I'll bet others do to. Let us know your thoughts. Have a great day!

Hi Meredith,
About the vagina and the "you know what"...It's great when you can laugh at yourself and share something so personal at the same time. I've said it once and I'll say it again: Meredith, you're a hoot! :)
You asked yourself in your own "interview": Are you doing a good job professionally? Are you a good Mom? You're doing great Meredith!! How do I and the rest of us know that? Through the stories you tell on your blog (I love your stories!), and for just being you! :)
I missed seeing your lil' buddy Jasper on "Today" (my Mom told me about it, and she said Jasper will be making appearances ever so often). I did see a pic of you and Jasper in the recent Good Housekeeping article.

Take care,
Joe

I applaud your effort at blogging, I know how hard it is!!! But rest assured you're doing a great thing by sharing your personal struggles and triumphs... you're inspiring people to take charge of their own lives! :-)

Hello! My question for next week is: How do you juggle career, family, time for yourself, etc.?

My life is very hectic between work, my police memorial, working out, family/friends, etc.

OMG-from someone who has been down the fertility treatment road, I couldn't stop laughing about your, ahem, mistake. This should make my appointment at my RE today a bit easier to handle!

Thanks for the good laugh and for being able to laugh at yourself. So few in the spotlight like yourself are able to do that.

Meredith, my 14th month old son LOVES you! We turn "Millionaire" on & he comes "running" when he hears your voice! My hubby nicknamed him BooBoo and after a Yogi Bear Question, you said "Hey BooBoo" while looking at the camera. I am sure that baby wet his diaper in excitment. For a moment he was surprised then he was squealing, waving his arms, bouncing around and laughing in sheer delight. His "girlfriend" spoke to him! I don't know which is more enjoyable, watching "Millionaire" or watching Conchobhar (Irish-Gaelic & pronounced Conor)watch you! Thank you for the entertainment!

How does one become a blogger on the ivillage site? How do you select someone - do they submit a sample, what is involved?

Hi Meredith: I found your blog totally by accident. I enjoyed this post very much because I had the same problem you did - not enough progesterone to sustain a pregnancy. My doctor used the same therapy (progesterone suppositories) as yours did (he DID tell me where to insert them :)

I have a friend who I believe may have the same problem. Are you aware that this progesterone suppository therapy is unheard of in many areas of the country? I think you may be on to something... perhaps a segment on this problem, what to look for when you suspect that this might be the problem, the various signs and symptoms that can accompany low progesterone and the need for progesterone in the body when pregnant until the corpus luteum kicks in?

Since you went through this, I'm sure that you are familiar with what I am referring to. I was so fortunate to find a doctor in Phoenix who figured it out right away. Otherwise, my 23 year old son would not now be around.

Food for thought. Perhaps you might wish to do a report.

that question on millionaire about a pallindrome phobia, aibohphobia, was totally unfair.

that should have been a million dollar question, if any, not a 4 thousand dollar question.

and doing that to a navy man? does somebody hate this guy?
that was absolutely horrible!!!!

it left such a bad taste in my mouth, i hardly think i can tune in again.

You were one of five corresoondents on the CBD news show "West 57th" in 1987. Have you kept in contact with the other four (Jane Wallace, Bob Sirott, John Ferrugia and Steve Kroft)?
