Putting my foot in it
Have you ever put your foot in your mouth? Well, I sure did this morning…
Russell Crowe was here for an interview and off-camera I said to him “Great to see you again, I interviewed you at The View,” to which he replied “I’ve never been on The View.” I proceeded to insist that indeed he had been on--I even had someone call The View to make sure I was right, and sure enough…I wasn’t.
Fortunately he was a total gentleman about it. And no phones were thrown.
It was an appropriate start to what I anticipate to be a crazy week…in addition to my duties on Today and Millionaire, this Friday I am dancing live with the world famous Rockettes, in front of 6,000 people at Radio City Music Hall.
It’s the opening night of their Christmas Spectacular and I certainly will put the spectacle in spectacular! The Rockettes have never allowed anyone to dance with them in front of a live audience, and though it will only last for less than a minute, I just don’t want it to feel like an eternity for me or the people who paid money to get in.
You have to understand this has been my dream since I was a little girl; I’ve watched the Rockettes perform on every Macy’s Thanksgiving Day special. For years I took tap and for a long time convinced myself I had a shot at being a Rockette. Then two things happened: I stopped growing at 5’ 3” (their height requirement is 5’ 6" to 5’ 10 1/2") and my talent didn’t increase much with time.
So it came down to begging. Right after I got the Today gig, we started calling Radio City. And to my surprise they loved the idea of fulfilling my fantasy…you can see just how high I can kick when the piece airs on Monday November 13. The Rockettes will also be dancing live in our plaza that day. Stay tuned.

You are just so nice. Thank you for taking the time to share with us, answering our questions, and showing us that you are such a quality person. Good luck to you and yours.
OOh-- I would KILL to dance with the Rockettes! I just read an interesting article about their new choreographer, and I can't wait to take the kids to see the show. I'm to short to qualify as well, but it doesn't prevent me from dreaming...
You're kidding, Meredith? I, too, believed Russell Crowe had been on THE VIEW...though it probably was one of Barbara's taped "peeks" for an upcoming special.
"Break a leg" next Monday, I'll be watching.
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHH Meredith!! I'm SOOOOOOOOO jealous!
My lifelong dream also. YOU GO GIRL.
Ask, and ye shall receive huh? (or beg!)
SO if you ever need a 'partner' - I'm available.
Meredith,
You handled Russell Crowe brilliantly. I'm glad you forced him to address the phone throwing - even if he did not like it.
Real people do not have publicists constantly spinning their pasts. Sure he should be allowed to move on, but he also has to expect that people want him to be held accountable.
Do you still see your ex-cohorts from The View?
Hi Meredith,
I'm glad Russell Crowe didn't throw a phone at you this morning! :) hee hee
I can't wait to see you and the Rockettes together next Monday!
GO MEREDITH! GO MEREDITH!
C-ya!
Joe
Meredith!!!! You'll do great with the Rockettes! I'm from Dallas and saw you kicking up your heels with The Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders when The View visited the Big D. You can kick it with the best of 'em! How awesome for your dream to come true. :)
Also, great interview with RC, as well as with Madonna!
Dear Meredith,
You're like a breath of fresh air. It's refreshing to watch you because you seem to enjoy everything you do. You have a tremendous "Joie de vivre" and it shows each time we watch you.
You make us smile.
Thanks for that....CS
Hahahahahah!!!!!!! The Russell Crowe comment made me laugh!!! Thanks!! It's been a horrifc day. LOL Take care
meredith, you are SO nice and SO real and SO human!! it's a pleasure getting used to your voice in the morning, and you're doing a GREAT job to boot!
keep it up, as it can't be all easy, but you're so much fun to be with, none of the rest matters....
WOW, I watched you all those years on The View & I would have sworn you were 5'6" or taller. If you're 5'3", then how tiny is Barbara? It must just be your BIG personality that gives the illusion of height! Kudos, Meredith!
You've called Matt a "jerk" several times. Is he really that much of a jerk, or are you just teasing him? The chemistry between you seems real, but I wonder how you get along???
I adore watching you on Today. You all look like you actually like each other. Do you keep in touch with your friends from the View. Also, I'm originally from RI like you. Is your family still there?
I have to admit i don't watch the today show.I became a fan of yours after watching Millionaire, and since then i have this platanoic crush on you.hehe.Well i guess iam going to start watching today on monday.I however did see your fall with ferell. That made me sad:[
