Friday Q&A: Springsteen, back to school, and turkey!

SEPTEMBER 28, 2007

Guess what – I’m not "running off to Millionaire today" … I’m running off to 30 Rock—not the building, the NBC hit sitcom that just won an Emmy for Best Comedy Series. I’m playing myself in an upcoming episode. And the creative mind behind the show, Tina Fey, will be joining us on Today next week. But before I go, let’s answer a few questions…

How was your First experience with Bruce out on the Plaza? Have you ever seen him in Concert? He puts on the best concert hands down. Have a great weekend. :)

I have to admit I was a Springsteen "virgin" going into the concert. I’ve never seen him and the E Street Band perform live, much less be five feet from them while they’re on stage. But now that I have, I’m blown away. They were terrific and Bruce seems like an incredibly nice guy. When he did his sound check at 6 o’clock this morning, there was already a huge audience. Bruce joked that he was wearing his pj’s under his jeans. His new album Magic goes on sale next week.

After having their brother leave for college this week were Gabe and Lily really upset? Also is life more complicated now that you're dealing with school schedules again?
Posted by Rachael Schuit on September 23 at 11:14am

Gabe and Lily seem fine, although they keep asking me how I’m doing. Right now Gabe’s learning how to drive, and he said as soon as he gets his license he’s going to help pick up the slack since his brother is away. As for school schedules and life being more complicated—absolutely. I try to get in the habit of writing down school dates on a big calendar off our kitchen. Otherwise, they go out of my head. Come to think of it, yesterday was open-school night and we had to sign up for parent-teacher conferences in November. I signed up, but I forgot to write it down, so when I get done with this blog, I’m callin’ the school—I’ve already forgotten what day in November we’re supposed to be there.

Do you cook the turkey for Thanksgiving, Meredith?
Posted by Asmaa on September 20 at 12:01pm

I am the turkey on Thanksgiving. But I digress…This year we’re hosting my side of the family, and there will definitely be two turkeys in the oven. Cooking the bird(s) is usually a joint-effort, since there are lots of good cooks, and everyone likes to "stir the pot".

Instead of two turkeys, get one of those turkeys stuffed with a chicken stuffed with a Cornish Game Hen (and invite me to dinner!). That should be enough meat for everyone.

Meredith, I have to say, I was very sad to see you leave the View, but, since you've been on the Today Show, we get to see a side of you, we didn't get on the View. You are a very compassionate lady, and a SUPER GREAT MOM!!! That is rare in the world today. You have three great kids, and they seem to love you very much, as do all of your fans out there, including myself. I know your counting the days until Ben comes home for the Holdiday. He will be a stronger young man, that you and your husband will be even more proud of. Leep being the kind and caring person you are, and Love to you and your family, from me.

Hi Meredith,
I know your contract prohibits you from being on air after 9am to prevent from "competing" with yourself, but in the event of a breaking news story would you be permitted to stay on air? Also, did Katie Couric offer you any advice when you were announced as her successor?

I enjoyed you on The View and was very sad that you left. I think you bring energy and humor to the Today Show; however, from someone who knows -- no job is worth your health. Have a great day.

Deal...................or No Deal?
Speaking of, here's a really good question:
Would you be allowed to make a special guest model appearance on an episode of "Deal or No Deal"?
I think that would be really fun and cool.
With Ben being out in Calif., I was just wondering about that.
I hear you're going to be on a ep of "30 Rock" as yourself! How cool is that! (I sound like Rachael Ray) :)
You'll have to tell us more about your gig on "30 Rock".
Boy, Meredith, before you know it, you'll be a full-blown actress as well as a journalist and game-show hostess! :)
Hope all is well with you and family.
Speaking of Ben, it does get easier with time. I'm glad things are easier for you.
I loved when you said you are THE turkey on T'Day. Too funny!
Well, off to school and work I go!!

Bye for now,
Joe :)

I have not seen you on the Today Show lately? What's up? (ex. 10/11/07)
My daughter volunteers on a local television Channel. She is a Sophimore in high school and loves doing this, however she talks through her nose, any encouraging advise?? She is a great reader, and uses expresion, but theres a definate nasal. It's a delicate situationa as I do not want to cause doubt in her ability.
It amazes me that you find time to answer/read you mail, thank you! I watched The View for years. I love your outspoken personality plus you make me laugh! I admire the suport you have for your husband, enjoyed hearing about your early days with him and the deep feelings you have when you are passionate about something!
Your children and husband are blesses!

Hey girl! I always see you being so friendly with those crazy people who wake up early to come to see the show on the plaza. has anyone ever said or done anything to you that creeped you out? What's the weirdest thing someone has done or asked you to do? Or what is the nicest?

Hello, I hope that you see this question. The other day one of the moms on the parenting after an infant loss board posted a great question. Oct. is pregnancy and infant loss rememberance month, but nobody seems to care b/c it is breast cancer awareness month. We are not saying that one life is more important than another, and we know that it is a subject that people are uncomfortable with; however, it is very important that awareness is raised. If more women were aware of how common infant loss/stillbirth is, it might help save the lives of babies. It would also help comfort those who have lost babies and feel that they are all alone. Nobody seems willing to deal with this issue, and it is very difficult to face the fact that most people don't seem to care. October 15th was pregnancy and infant loss rememberance day, but it didn't receive media coverage. Why is this? Can you help? Thank you
