Leaf Me Alone

A big "thumbs up" to those of you who figured out what was wrong with my Millionaire publicity photo. It’s those "Gumby arms," and lobster-claw hands. The scariest part is that the people at Millionaire swear those arms and hands were not "manipulated" in any way.

And to "Lois," who asked whether I “tuck” my arms up my sleeve “to look normal” when I’m out on the plaza, the answer is "no." (But the wardrobe department has one heck of a job hiding my tail every morning…)

If I’m not on the air tomorrow, check the obits. This morning while doing a tease for a Fall Foliage piece, I took one of the fake leaves from the set out on the plaza, and put it in my mouth, as if it were a rose and I was doing the tango. As soon as they cut to commercial, Joe, my security guard came over with a worried look on his face and said, “You need to get upstairs right away and rinse your mouth out." “What’s the matter?" I asked. He said “That leaf you just put in your mouth is covered with fire-retardant spray, and is probably poison.”

I hung my head in embarrassment, and walked away, my tail between my legs. After all, there was no reason why I couldn’t have kept that poisonous leaf at "arms length."

As you know, I’ve got the picture to prove it. Let’s have it one more time, Pokey:

Mer -- You should take that bottle of NyQuil out of your pocket and rinse your mouth out with it! (ha ha)! That stuff can knock out anything!

My gosh Meredith, I hope there is nothing wrong and that leaf wasn't some kind of poison. I don't know how they can say they didn't do anything with your hands on that poster, if you took the poster away I would like to see how you would look, like a long armed woman, I would think.
Hope to see you tomorrow
Love you, Meredith

My Meredith, what BIG arms you have!!! LOL Hello! So I saw you yesterday...I was at the 3pm taping of Millionaire. Yes, I auditioned....and I did not pass! That is all I seemed to think about today. Thought I did good tho. Glad I actually did it! I am a ClubMom of three boys: 2 eight-yr old frat twins, and now a 17mo old. Geno, Joseph and Roman. Yes, as in "Roman Brady" from DOOL> my fave soap. I just got done tearing up after reading your blog about Ben. Seeing the future...doesn't take much for me to cry either. Just wanted to say hello. Oh, btw, my friend's cousin's daughter dates your neighbor's son. I think that is how it goes. That was the story she told on the bus to the taping yesterday if I got it right. LOL What keeps you going on long days from "Today" to "Millionaire?" Speaking of long days...gotta get myself to bed at this very late hr. Take care. See you tomorrow on Today! LOL

There's a woman in our neighborhood who tries to get attention by portraying herself as a klutz and regaling us with the latest evidence of her klutziness. After a while, it gets old.

What gets old are some of the snide comments from some posters who can't seem to appreciate what Meredith is giving of herself to us in this blog. I'm not sure what you're trying to imply but lucky for us, Meredith isn't your neighbor. Exactly how is Meredith looking for attention? Please lighten up! Meredith keep the stories coming. I love your sense of self deprecating humor and candor.

Question about the show: Why is Ann Curry interviewing Jenna Bush instead you or Matt?

Liz said:

Courtney,

If you don't like Meredith stories, then do all of us a favor: stay off the blog and keep you mouth shut. I, for one, have noticed that you use different names to post a negative comment almost everyday. Now that is what's really old. Find something more uplifting and productive to do.

I commend Meredith for keeping this blog going in spite of jealous, destructive people like you.

I fast foward the commercials. Please tell me:is Giada a permanent co-anchor at 10;00am? It would be nice to see her do what she does best, share her love of cooking. If you want I have a fantastic menue for an Italian Thanksgiving. It never fails.

Meredith,

I am hoping to start a career in broadcast journalism and hopefully join you and the gang on the plaza, soon! Where should a person begin?

Meredith,

I was diagnosed with MS in 1992. It seems on the news there is never any information about this disease. I was wandering if you could do a series of stories of MS, treatments, lifestyle changes, family changes, etc. A lot of people think MS is all in your head, but if people could live in my body for one day they would know what it felt like. I am mobile and use a cane. I am on several medications and I do everything in my power to keep some sort of lifestyle. I would appreciate it since your husband has MS if you could bring the affects of this disease to the public.

Sincerely,

Carol Rosenbalm

You had a guest on last week who did things with people's old slides (photos). Could you tell me who he was and how to get in touch with him. I have a lot of old slides and was going to throw them out, someone told me about this guy.

I have also been blindsighted by an illness and have written a telling memoir (silverliningpublishing.com) which details my life and the symptoms that began to plaque me at the age of 48.

My nephew is battling the autoimmune disease MS and I have been diagnosed with Hashamoto's Thyroid (an autoimmune disease of the thyroid) and Bipolar 1 Disorder.

The combination of hypothyroidism, menopause and Bipolar Disorder have been troubling for me and like MS they do not get much exposure.

Approx. 5.7 million Americans have some form of mental illness yet there is no parity with the insurance companies. When a patient reaches their maximum visits-they are cut off. Now, can you imagine a diabetic or heart patient being treated in such a way?

Congressman Patrick J. Kennedy has been fighting for parity on Capitol Hill but cannot win the battle without support.

The truth is mental illness will prevail if mental health is undervalued. Won't you please help?

And by the way, you're great!
