Q&A: The Ends of the Earth, Halloween, and Jiminy Cricket!
Meredith will be answering questions today and tomorrow!
NOVEMBER 8, 2007
How did you decide who got to go to the cold of Antarctica or the North Pole? It would be a great experience, except for the time to get there and the frigid cold. I think you got the best part of the scenario.

When planning "The Ends of the Earth", at first it was decided that Ann would go to Antarctica, Matt to the Arctic, and Al and I would go to the Equator. But as we got closer to the air date, the producers were concerned that the satellite feeds might not all come through—since something like this had never been attempted before—so it was agreed that we needed someone at home base. Plus there was always the chance that a major news story would break, and one of us would have to hit the ground running—that’s how I ended up in New York City.
Hi Mer, I wanted to know what did you for Halloween this year? Thanks
Posted by Royce Kennedy on November 04 at 11:24pm
This year my Halloween was a little bit of a bust. I bought tons of candy, but only had about ten trick-or-treaters. I still have three huge bowls of candy sitting on the foyer table.
What is your favorite song?, and why is it your favorite?
Posted by Paul Avyerinos on November 02 at 12:35am
My favorite song is "When You Wish Upon A Star" as sung by Jiminy Cricket in Pinocchio because it made me think that anything is possible. I remember it was the first song as a little kid that I really loved.
Feel free to post a question of your own for next time!

Is it hard to get up to commute to work very early in the morning? Are you used to it by now. I talked to people at local stations and they said they get up at 2:30 AM!
You should send your excess Halloween candy to Iraq. There are many programs for doing this; just use Google. Here's one story:

Hi Meredith and Amanda,
I have always wondered this: why do you leave at 9 every day? I remember that Katie always did as well, and I thought Matt used to leave at 9, but lately it seems Matt stays until 10 along with Al. Just curious for the reasoning. :)
Have a lovely day!
That's right, anything is possible...
Meredith,
I know Natalie Morales is not on until after nine but are you friends with her at all? I also wanna thank you for taking a comment off of your blog one time and writing a response to it on your question blog. I'm 13 and dreaming of becoming a journalist and it means so much to me when people like you give me encouragment. I had the thrill of meeting Natalie Morales in Rockefeller Center one time.

Meredith,
I have a question. Star Jones was on the show the other day and Matt interviewed her. Is there any reason that you didn't do the interview? Is there any problems between you two?
Meredith,
Does seniority play a role in who gets what interviews and travels to a breaking news location? It seems like Matt always gets the bigger interviews and exclusives and is on the scene of a breaking news story (ie. S. Cal wildfires, MN bridge collapse)? In terms of the on location stories, I'm wondering if your husband's health and the fact that you live outside of the city are considerations for why you mostly cover the big stories from Studio 1A?
Prior to you joining the show, I felt that big gets/stories were evenly distributed between both co-anchors. Now it doesn't appear to be an equitable distribution. Am I wrong? Given your great journalistic chops and hard hitting interviewing style, I think you're being underutilized and sometimes give way too many fluff pieces.
Hey Meredith! You rock! I have loved you since your 1st day on the View and I love watching you every morning on Today. Why not donate all of that left over candy to a shelter or something? I bet it would really brighten the day for a lot of people.
Hi Meredith,
I loved the pics of Mr. Knutts, Baby Sophia, and Gabe and Lily on the set of Millionaire with you. I look forward to watching the Friday ep.
Also glad to hear that Lily's appendectomy went just fine and that she's alright.
Meredith, do you know if Millionaire will be renewed for the 2008-2009 season? You said your contract goes up in 2009, but I was curious to know if Disney-ABC Television Distribution/Valleycrest had made a decision yet about renewing the show?
One reason I ask this is because I didn't make it to Manhattan last summer to catch some tapings. I have lived in Central NY state since May 1, but have still yet to visit NYC for the very first time -- ever. I'm 42, and have never been to NYC, but would love to make it there soon.
One last question -- for now: I would like an autographed pic (the Millionaire one -- without the leaf hee hee) of you, and was wondering if I may wait until January (after the holidays) to receive one?
Thanks,
Joe :)
Hello Meredith I enjoy getting my day started with you and rest of the gang. I would like to ask you to say a special prayer for a special child, a 3 year old child that has beed diagnosed with leukemia. This child and family needs all our prayers.
And everyone who has children please take a moment to let your child know that you love them.
Keep up the great work on the today show, love you guys.
Meredith,
You are such a refreshing lady to listen to in the mornings. I just wanted to thank you for all you do on a daily basis keeping us in touch with the world. I appreciate your 'groundedness'---it's a rare gift.
Keep up the good work.

Hi Meredith,
I am always curious about the clothes ya'll wear on the today show. Are they your own or are they provided for you?
I am also wondering if you go to church.
I LOVE the pictures you are posting to your blog now! Keep 'em coming!!!!
If I were you I would be perfectly happy holding down the fort-especially after Ann described how her face was freezing as she was talking-yikes!
Can I have some of that candy??? ;]
On this morning's Today show, you commented with distress about "girls gone wild" drinking because they want attention like celebrity drunks. You and the other media are the only people that have the power to change this distressing social trend. You should head a campaign to stop giving publicity to bad behavior. Start seeking out positive news about celebrities. Only cover Angelina Jolie helping in Africa, etc. The power is in your hands to change the models for young women.
hi meredith
i did watch your reaction when your 2 kids came out with the cake on your 1000th episide of millionaire. It was really funny but don`t worry about it. If you hadn`t told us prior, we wouldn`t have noticed. You always do your best at whatever you do and we`re so proud of you. I`m sure your kids and Richard are too.
Hi Meredith,
How in the world do all of you get in your Halloween costumes so fast? It seems you are on the air in one segment and after the commercial brake you are all dressed in full makeup and costumes. I loved the Munsters theme.
I am portuguese and from Connecticut. I read your story in Good Housekeeping where you mentioned how your mom use to cook all that good portuguese food. There are great portuguese restaurants and bakery's in our area. If you'd like a list, I will be more than happy to send it to you.
Has anyone else noticed that the Friday blog is missing--or never done as it was suggested?
When the footage about harvesting "The Tree" there was a gorgeous eagle flying over the tree. I hope you and the rest of the Today show saw it. Happy Thanksgiving.
On the November 8 Price Is Right episode, a contestant in the Ten Chances game took an incredibly long time to guess and write down the price of the truck, when, in fact, the rules state that contestants playing the pricing game have only ten seconds to mark down their responses. As Price Is Right host, would you have told the contestant, "Sorry, chump, but the buzzer beat you! I have to enforce the rules! You don't win the truck!", even at the risk of alienating the audience?
I recently spent a week in New York. My second day there is fondly called the "Meredith Day". I went to the Plaza during the Today show. I was there only 5 minutes when the whole team came outside. You came over and spoke with several people (I was one of them) ... you were so gracious, down-to-earth and kind! Later I sat in the studio audience for "Millionaire". I had many wonderful experiences that week; but my âMeredith Dayâ was absolutely a highlight!
Hi Meredith, I am really excited that I found this blog, I love the Today Show! I think that it is fantastic that you want to run in a marathon, I hope to as well. Do you think that you will try to run in one in the next year or two?
~Emily
You missed the Friday blog. What will you whine about now? Too busy to blog because you had to ride in the armored truck taking your $millions to the bank?
Hi Meredith,
I'm a dedicated fan of the Today program and Millionaire. What perfume do you wear? Is it true you have worn Jean Nate for years?
Thanking you in advance from the mountains of Oregon...Anni
Mine favorite song is, "Here Comes The Sunshine" as performed by Love Inc.
Meredith,
I enjoy watching the today show. I really enjoy the show since you came on board!! I really feel that the show has a more down to earth tone to it. Keep up the great work. You make my day..
Tony
i was wondering Merridth as I watch the Today Show every morning, you are a beautiful lady but when you are standing I notice that your left arm when it's slightly bent, it sticks out at the elbow, like your favoring that side is it just a habit or what?
This morning you interviewed a couple from CA about the accident that took their children. I am truly sorry for their loss and will pray for their good health with their new family. They were very negative regarding truck drivers, well I take issue with that, my husband is a retired driver and we have had a wonderful life from that. Do not judge all drivers because of this one. FYI some of the larger companies already have the GPS tracking that he referred to that is availabe in "other countries", that makes the US sound like we fell off the watermelon truck. This equipment is very expensive so I understand that some of the smaller companies and especially the owner-operators have not been able to install this in their truck. Now I feel better. Thanks for the wonderful show. PS, I love the remark about changing diapers, good for you. Thanks.
Mary
Hi Meredith,
The BIG questions.
When you visited China, did you go to see the prisons where they keep the political prisoners? You know, the ones they use for organ harvesting. Did you visit the factories where they are building weapons? You know, the ones their government wants to kill us with. Ah yes, China...beautiful China.
Meredith, please ignore the nasty remarks by James M. McEntire. He's obviously extremely jealous and unsuccessful as he spends way too much time focusing on your bank account. Maybe if he put in the same kind of time and energy into his own life, he'd be a happier person.
That's (MY) not (Mine) lol
What is with some of you people whining each time Meredith misses a blog entry? I've seen five year olds behave better than some of you. The world doesn't revolve around you. Get over yourselves and your sense of entitlement.
How old are some of these whiners, cowards and trolls who post here? I can't imagine they're grown adults. If you're sitting around keeping track of when Meredith posts an entry, then you clearly have WAY too much time on your hand. Again, Meredith is doing this as a favor to us. This isn't something she has to do. It could be possible that there are days when she doesn't have anything to say. Why hassle her? Let's be grateful on those days when she can. I mean the woman is providing us with a look into her personal life. How many other tv personalities do this? People grow up and show a little more respect.
This blog has been very classy, warm cathartic and entertaining for many of us. I'd prefer it to stay this way and I'd like for Meredith to continue blogging. Some of the recent comments have been downright rude, hurtful and condescending. There are many message boards out there for this type of meanspiritedness. TMZ and AOL come to mind. Why don't all of you complainers take your sniping over there?
Merideth,
You did a great job hosting the Maceys parade. As much as we loved we were disapointed in not being able to see much of the parade. Next year can it be less about the stars and more about the people and the parade. Because of you guys focusing more on the stars, we missed out on seeing our hometown high school band performing in the band. Please can we see a change.
thanks for all you do.
Meredith,
You wore a red wrap and a black wrap several weeks ago. It was a cape type wrap with ruffled edges. Where might I purchase one like them? Very stylish! By the way, you are doing a great job!
THANKS MERIDITH FOR TAKING PICTURE WITH MY GIRLS--THEY WERE THRILLED AND SO WERE WE--THIS IS THE SECOND TIME YOU HAVE PASSED MY FAMILY'S PATH--MY HUSBAND'S NIECE AND NEPHEW BOUGHT YOUR BEAUTIFUL UPSTATE HOUSE---ROBERT AND THERESA--I WOULD LIKE TO E-MAIL YOU THE PICTURE BECAUSE YOU JUST LOOK SO BEAUTIFUL IN IT--BUT THEN AGAIN YOU HAVE YOUR ARMS AROUND MY TWIN GIRLS--EVEN I LOOK BEAUTIFUL WHEN I AM HOLDING THEM--AND I AM OLDER THAN DIRT--THANKS AGAIN--JAN
Hey Meredith,
Love you on the show, you seem like my favorite aunt. Someone you love being around all the time. Writing this to say you look good with your glasses. Wear them more often. Wish you the best on the show.
I love your hair. Can you tell me what colors are used. I know that is a hairdressers formula but if you can give my any hints or advise on obtaining your color or products you use, I would be so happy. I think you are the prettiest ever and get better as you age.
Thanks,
Janis
