Friday Q&A: Clothes, More Millionaire & Marathons

Meredith tackles more of your questions! Asks yours today, and check back next Friday for the answer. Maybe she'll choose yours!

DECEMBER 7, 2007

Hi Meredith,
Love you on the TODAY show. My Friday question for you is: Do you ever wear the same outfit over again on the show? If not, what happens to your clothes? Do you donate them? Thanks!

Posted by Elizabeth on December 03 at 12:21pm

Actually, today I’m wearing something I’ve worn before—a grey jumper with a white shirt. I have a wonderful stylist, Fran Taylor (who is also the stylist for the ladies at The View—which is how we met) who picks out everything, since I wouldn’t know fashion if it hit me over the head with a stiletto. Because we’re a television show and don’t wear the same clothes season after season, we donate our wardrobe to various charities, including Dress for Success and Good Will.

Hi Meredith,
Do you know if Disney/ABC Television Distribution has renewed Millionaire for a 2008-2009 season yet?

Posted by Joe on December 03 at 01:48pm

Millionaire is produced by Buena Vista. Unless they’re not telling me something, I believe we’re renewed through at least the 2008-2009 season.

Hi Meredith, I am really excited that I found this blog, I love the Today Show! I think that it is fantastic that you want to run in a marathon, I hope to as well. Do you think that you will try to run in one in the next year or two?

In my head I see myself running a marathon, I just haven’t gotten that message down to my feet yet. But hope springs eternal.

Meredith: I've got to air-something. It's happened again. I saw it comming in the 80's-90's&2000s. IT'S TIME to admit. Our kids have games, and they mimic just what happened at the mall. It's out of control. "Fee-Speech" has crosed the line. Its time to take away the games. Theres games close to 911, Colembine,E Coast Collage, next year the new game will be killing 8,wonding 5 in Nebarska. People ask "Why Are Kids Killing Us" Open YOUR-EYEs. We have taken God out of every thing but "Cuss Words" What do we execpt. Thank God, you & I can reamber when it was safe to go to School-Mall-Store. For Gods sakes, teachers cant evan hurt little johny's feelings by giving him the D he deserves. He gets a B and a smile. Our system has alowed us to fear our own children, and able to do nothing about it. Every 5 years it gets worse.Take away thAre games, and give em V-Smile. At least they could read then. It's So Sad, if you look at a teenager wrong, you could be dead next. We kicked Got Out, He Cant Help Us Anymore!Some-Christmas

Gotta love them hope springs

Hi Meredith,
Thanks for answering my question about "Millionaire".
Here's another question:
What are your favorite Christmas songs and who sings some of your favorites (Bing, Frank, Tony B., Johnny M., Eartha Kitt, etc.)?

Joe :)

hello Meredith my name is Kyle Clark I am a very big fan of yours from Swansea, IL and I was wondering if you wear Hats? and if so if you could do a today show with a Hat on?

Thank you for donating your clothes to Dress for Success. I was a receipt of a "shopping spree" through them last year and it really helped me with my new job. Amazing that no matter how much you know the external things don't create happiness, a new outfit can give you quite a confidence boost! It is a fabulous program.

In the wake of the continuing writers' strike, here is a preview of what may be yet to come as far as game shows are concerned...

Coming soon to NBC...Meredith Vieira is sequestered in the isolation booth as ten contestants surrounding her at stationed podiums ask the most challenging trivia questions she has never asked on her Millionaire TV show...the last one standing who is successfully able to stump Meredith Vieira wins a grand prize of $25 million, the largest in television history! Tune in as NBC presents its newest intellectual game show yet--STUMP HER! The OTHER game show besides Jeopardy! where contestants ask the questions--but with a new twist--the questions must be improvised! STUMP HER--coming this fall to NBC--sponsored by Toyota...

Hello, Congrats on your milestones. I just hit 50 on Dec 1 this year and nothing happened!Well, the earth did not shake and I did not turn to stone! But it is great to make it to this turning point. So far no health problems or "senior moments" to worry about.Thank you Jack Lalanne, fitness really pays off! Please tell Matt Lauer that I wish him the best on his milestone day also. I could not find his Blog (does he have one?)
My first major task upon hitting 50 was to sign up for AARP! Card is on the way! I hope you all do the same. I am checking my Marine Corps benefits to see if anything will change. Hopefully not.

Well again I wish you both the best this is a very special time and we are in many ways survivors of our generation. Notice that my birthday is now World AIDS day which is always very heartfelt for me. Many of my friends are gone. And of course we remember WWII on Dec 6th.

On a lighter side, we are still stuck with Donny Osmond! Oh well the day is still young!

Best Regards,
Michael A Davis

Meredith, I am a rancher and cowboy poet from Alberta Canada. I am glad to see you are thinking of running a marathon. if I could be do bold to offer a suggestion, they have training courses that run over a few months for running the hawaiian marathon. wouldn't that be fun??

I do believe we remember World WarII on December 7th not December 6th. Those of us who were there do anyway.

I was wondering how close you are to your Portuguese/Azorean roots. Do you speak Portuguese? Have you ever been to Portugal or the islands? We're planning a trip to Portugal and maybe the Azores this summer and was wondering if you had any advice for a first-timer at a topless beach?

What did you think of what that doctor told Matt this week about bathing with kids? I disagree with her advice to cover up when the kids start asking questions. My husband and I have been casual about nudity wth our kids (2 boys, 1 girl, 11, 13, 17 y/o), in part so they can ask questions and not sneak peeks like my friends say their sons do. It's just the human body, people! Until we recently added a second bathroom, we basically had to share the facilities in the mornings. Also, sadly, kids will usually eventually have to care for aging parents. After growing up never seeing my parents nude, I remember my father's embarrassment (and mine)when I had to help him in the bathroom. I never want my kids to go through that. Just my two cents.

Meredith,
I am 60 and learned a long time ago that I needed the advise of my daughter (now 30) for fashion advise. I don't know who helps you, but most days you wear clothes that my 90 year old mother wouldn't wear. Think about wearing professional styles and colors. You really shouldn't wear clothes that make the viewer look at the clothes instead of your beautiful face.

I have to agree with Stephena. You are paying way too much money for a stylist who is not doing you justice. You are far too attractive for some of those drab styles & colors she has dressed you in. Make her step up to the plate or hire someone new (like Stacy London).

Hi Meredith,
I was especially surprised and happy to see that you got your wish to dance with the "Rockettes".
I have always said to my family and friends that "in my next life", I'm going to be a "ROCKETTE" - you looked great and you did a wonderful job!
Somday, that will be my fantasy...
Each year, I look forward to the Thanksgiving Day parade to of course, see "Santa Claus" but most of all, to see the Rockettes.
Best of Luck to you and your family!
Merry Christmas!
Paulette Russell

David's interview 12/17/07 of Senator Clinton was painful to watch. He was aggressive and pathetic as he whined about not getting a direct answer. NBC showed bias against her compared with your respectful interview with Senator McCain. Why the bias?

Meredith, I am greatly disappointed that you would call Mike Huckebee to task for wishing people Merry Christmas. Are you going to teach your children that Christmas is an overt holiday and can't be celebrated. I think not. Shame of you! It amazes me that it's not ok to offend some people but not only acceptable but strongly urged to offend others. Why is that? I am highly offended that the world I live in is offended by my Savior. Why do I think it odd. They rejected Him when He came to earth also and sent Him to die on Calvary. I shudder for our future as a people and as a nation. Merry Christmas anyway. I'm sure you'll enjoy the time off and the presents and seeing children's eyes light up.

I love your haircolor. Could you describe the color for me? And I love the way you dress. Don't listen to those you criticize. Picking clothing is still one of our freedoms.

Hi Meredith,

I just want to say that I am a fairly new Today Show watcher. Ever since the summer, I have enjoyed getting up early and watching as much Today as possible before heading off to my job ( a whole 45 minutes ). Everytime I watch, I become inspired. I want to someday work on the Today show, or with any news program on TV. You truly inspire me to do something great. I am only a sophmore, but do you have any tips for me to follow this ideal career oppurtunity? Thanks so much.

P.S.- If you can, can you say hi to the entire Today crew for me?

I very much enjoy watching the Today show with you as cohost now. I liked Katie when she was on there also but I get a sense of genuine warmth and honesty with you. I hope someday you and Ann and the rest of the girls have a big sleepover and invite some of us girls and our girlfriends, buddies, etc whatever we call our friends that are girls and talk about all the same topics and how they affect us in the same or different ways. Enjoy watching you, have a good year.
