Holiday Cheer

Well, I was on the air this morning and fairly coherent, so you know I behaved at Today’s party. Forget about taking a village, it takes a small city to keep this show up and running on a daily basis. There were over 200 staff members celebrating yesterday at Fresco by Scotto, the Scotto family’s restaurant (if you watch the show, you know the Scottos are regulars on our show—always serving up something delicious to eat).

I’ve gotten to know a lot of the people who work here, but there are so many that I don’t see on a regular basis—like some of the editors and graphic artists and other folks behind the scenes. So it was great to have a chance to say hello and thank them for all their hard work.

Since it was a private party, I’ve been asked not to post pictures. Maybe that’s for the best, since there was, of course, karaoke. Let’s just say that we’re all keeping our day jobs.

It was a great afternoon.

Meredith,
QUESTION:

Whenever Star Jones is on Today, she is always interviewed by Matt. Is this because you and SJ were on The View together?

Also, what song did you sing at karaoke? Do any duets?

Jessica said:

Just wanted to say that the view is just not the same. Rosie was perfect last year. She kept it going, and smart, and interesting. im so frustrated. sherri is just dumb and whoopi is boring. ugghhh

Hi Meredith,

Here's a question for you -- something I've been wondering about for a while now:

Do you (and Matt, Ann, Al, etc) wear your own clothes? Do you pick out clothes from a selection in the studio? Or are your outfits chosen for you? I watch every morning while I eat breakfast and choose my own outfit for the day!

I love the Today show and watch it everyday while I dress for work. I cannot understand for the life of me why the producers of the Today show continue to focus on an utterly ridiculous story about a fradulent pageant! Enough already...we don't care. Nobody got hurt, it's over. Congratulations Miss PR. On to the next story.

Meredith,
On a very sad note, are you ready to head to Omaha, Nebraska? (site of the latest act of senseless killing and mayhem, and worse, during the holiday season)
So sad!

I LOVED the winter white jacket you were this morning on the Plaza. Please tell us the name of the designer. I'd love to add that to my Christmas wish list.

What was the most popular karaoke song? Was it a christmas song or just a random song? Who gave the best performance? Was it you or Al?

I decided this year since I had the time and oppurtunity to do so, to take a job as a bell ringer for the season, and journal the days. My belief is that knowledge comes through experience, and I always wondered about the bell ringers, so anybody that would like to follow, here is the link. Have a great day!

If you would like to follow along with the updates to Tale of a Bell Ringer, you can use this link, I will update the doc rather than post each day individually. Have a great day, wherever you are or what you might be doing today!

Blessings,

Linda

The first MV album has barely scratched the surface, and already there are plans for the follow-up CD, "SOUTHPAW", which focuses on more aspects of Meredith's life. The track listing:

1. My Inner Circle 2. No Getting Over You 3. Something Special 4. One Up 5. Haunted Places 6. You'll Never Know 7. Reporting The Blues 8. Soap Box 9. Woman On The Moon 10. Balance Of Power 11. Intrigue 12. Time Has Come 13. Higher Plane 14. Rainbow (with extended fade-out)

Lyrics for "Woman On The Moon"

(key: E Minor)

Will there ever be a woman
E D E D Em/G
Woman on the moon?
E D E D Em_G
We have waited far too long

Can't come too soon

I would love seeing MV perform at least one track from the future project on the shipboard broadcast posted elsewhere in this blog.

Finally, what song should MV cover? Go to poll.pollcode.com/imaY to cast your vote.

Today you, Matt, Al, and Ann were saying hello to an actor from Law & Order CI. You all kept saying the show where he is arrested was airing tonight at 10PM/9PM central. I'm sorry, but that show does not come on tonight. I am a BIG ER fan and ER comes on tonight at 10PM. Just thought I would pass that along...

Love your show. Don't get to watch it as much as I used to. I'm in Nursing School--graduating in May 2008 (WooHoo!!)--at the age of 50, Matt. =)

Meredith: I can't find another way to contact NBC. I believe you are all irresponsible in disclosing the name and background of the Omaha Shooter. He got what he wanted--his three minutes of fame. This encourages other disturbed people to do the same. Could the media not dwell on this? We know what he did--he went off the deep end so he could "go out with style" and "be famous."

My child turned to me in horror this morning and said, "Mom, that woman just called you a psychopath . . ." And my daughter was right. The Today Show allowed an extremely bigoted and uniformed sterotype to be leveled at me and my family. I am ADHD, Dyslexic and being treated for Sunlight Affective Disorder (a weather related form of depression). We are NOT psychotic. The vemon I heard on the Today Show this morning leveled DIRECTLY at ME and thousands of others of innocents like me was beyond vile. APPOLOGIZE TODAY SHOW CREW AND GET THE FACTS! The majority of ADHD/depressed children and adults in the USA do NOT shoot up schools and malls, etc. THank you for encouraging the discrimination against us to continue. The VAST majority of us are well above average intelligence, kind, loving and highly creative people (Thomas Alva Edison was one of us!) Tell the truth, and give us our chance to answer back to those who want to toss us into the trash as worthlessness like you all allowed done on Today!

Your mention of the Scottos reminds me of a question that pops in my head every time I see them:

Isn't one of the Scottos -- Roseanna -- an anchor on the local New York Fox station? I've always wondered how you guys were able to get her to appear on those segments. Did Fox give permission? Was there an issue with that at some point? Given that you can't appear on Today after 9 because of your Millionaire contract, you'd think Fox would have a similar issue with Roseanna appearing on NBC...

T said:

Joel,

Rosanna Scotto might have to become a high paid anchor like Meredith before Fox would bother to write something like that into he contract. NY might be a large market, but it isn't that big...

Jessica, What gives you the right to call Sherri, dumb and Whoopie boring, since Rosie is gone the stress level is so much better, sounds like you just liked the fighting, don't watch the show if it doesn't meet your high standards.
Laurie, you need to take a chill pill, holy smokes you sure lost your cool, sounds like you have alot of pent up anger.
Some people can't wait to jump at any chance to tear into anyone they can. Get a life girls
Love ya Meredith
Sherri and Whoopie too.

A new twist to the light bulb joke goes this way: During a recent stint on my job as an elevator attendant at the Holiday Inn Northwest in Indianapolis, there were ten women as well as myself trapped in the glass elevator, which featured doors that swung open manually as well as a switch that had to stay depressed for the lift to keep moving. There was no light in the elevator, since the lights shined from the lobby. When we arrived at the ground floor, I pushed the door to open, but it was locked! We were trapped! The door interlock firmly held us in just like the leather belt surrounding the jean shorts and pantyhose I wore as my uniform! Nearly one whole minute had passed before we discovered that the only way out of the chamber was to look at the rear door, which, thankfully, was not locked! In summary, it took all eleven of us women to get out of the elevator--one, the dumbfounded attendant (myself!), nine to look around the glass window, and the last one to discover the rear door. True story.

Hi -
I miss you after 9AM -they don't even give you a chance to say good-bye. While on The View, you aired here in RI at 11AM. Why does the Today Show after 9AM now ruin your deal with Millionaire? Love you on Today - don't leave so soon!

Meredith,

I got a kick out of you standing next to Dave Gregory this morning. How tall is he and how "short" are you?
