Friday Q&A: Adventures, Shopping, and Wedding Cakes

Meredith tackles more of your questions! Ask yours today, and check back next Friday for the answer. Maybe she'll choose yours!

JANUARY 18, 2008

Hey Meredith!!! Your chicken recipe sounds DELISH! Good for you!!!
Hey! When are you and Matt going to go on some kind of adventure together? I'm dying to see you two together outside of the studio. I LOVED the segment with you and Ann doing the tree obstacle course. Will you and Matt do anything like that together? You two have such wonderful chemistry! Also, will you and Ann being going on any more girl only adventures?

Ann and I are planning an adventure for the Spring and it may include our daughters which would be really cool. Matt and I have been trying to come up with the perfect road trip together – I’ll keep you posted. Al and I are hitting the road in a few weeks. And let’s just say we hope to make a big ‘splash’.

Hi Meredith,
I was wondering do you and your family go out together on a weekend just to hang out and go shopping? I also wanted to know where do you and your family like to go shopping at?
Thanks for sharing your life and thoughts with us.

I’m not a big shopper--and my closet at home certainly confirms that. But my daughter Lily is the "fashionista". She’s not into "labels" at all but she loves putting clothes together and unlike her mother, she has a great sense of style. Her favorite place is a store called "Havana Jeans" and we often end up there on a Saturday morning. Gabe favors discount stores -- he really loves a bargain, like picking up a five dollar sweater from H&M. Ben is off at college, and hopefully studying so hard that he has no time to shop (although he did mention to me recently that he has discovered "Craig’s List").

Meredith, I have a question about the food that is cooked, or displayed on the Today show set. What happens to it after the show is finished for the day? Like all those beautiful wedding cakes Martha Stewart had on your show today? At times, there are great mounds of food of all sorts. Just wondering what happens to it all. thanks. gloria

Martha Stewart's wedding cakes that were on the other day looked so great that I asked for a piece—only to find out that they were mostly cardboard; just the icing was real. But usually the food used in segments is the real deal, and always quickly devoured by staff once the segment is over. We are so lucky because some of the best chefs in the world visit Today on a regular basis. And for the crew members who are often here from midnight on, it’s a well-deserved treat.

Feel free to post a question of your own for next time!

Hello Meredith:

I have a couple of questions for you:

1. Does NBC News plan on tranforming the plaza into Democracy Plaza for election coverage?

2. What is all included in the Research Packets the 4 of you get each night

3. What happened to the daily Allday blog updates for what was coming up tomorrow on Today?

Lastly, is is possible to get a tour of 30 Rock and NBC News, including Studio 1A?

I've got a question for you this week... I'm a senior in high school and I participate in Extemporaneous Speaking and Student Congress. Did you do any sort of public speaking growing up and have you always been comfortable with public speaking or did it take awhile? (I know I still sometimes get nervous...)
Thanks!
Renee

Meredith,

I loved listening to your husband talk on the View. And the Battle of the Head is something that I wish was more embraced on all levels, he is geat! Not too many people that I see on TV, that leave you feeling like it would be a great person to sit down and talk with for awhile, but he definitely is. Godspeed to him in all he undertakes.

Blessings,
Linda

Last Friday morning, 01/18 I think, I saw the story about the young man who held the sign for his mom to receive a makeover. When she was picked, he explained on camera about the fact she lost her husband the previous year. Well, what I saw, was a child who also lost his father and in the telling of his mom's pain, put his own pain of losing his father second to his mom's pain. What a selfless, considerate son!! I called and emailed last Friday - I hope this reaches you Meredith - I am not connected to them at all but would love to see Today Show do something special for that special son. His sadness brought me to tears.

Hi Meredith, Last Friday I saw the story about the young man holding the sign for his mom to receive a makeover. While explaining on camera why (she lost her husband previous year) I was saddened and amazed by this selfless child who almost came to tears telling her story, putting her pain before his pain of losing a dad. I tried to contact Today on Friday to suggest that Today might do something special for such a special son. I have no connection to these people, but was brought to tears by the emotion from that young man. I hope you can do something good for him like he did for his mom.

Dear Meredith:

I just want to say you have got to be one of the sweetest people around. The crowd outside gravitates to you I can only watch you from 7 a.m. until I leave for work, but all of you definitely have a chemistry that works and you always begin my day in a positive way - and that is saying something!! I know you have your own problems, but they never show!!! Thanks for making my day every day.

Loved the carpool bit. But look at all the stuff headed for a landfill. You guys ever thought of making coffee at home and drinking from a reusable cup?

Many of us are interested in cooking information and are frustrated when the cooking segments are interrupted and cut short by the co hosts trying to get laughs. The cooking guests have obviously spent a lot of time prepping for the segments and a lot of people want to hear ALL they have to say. Please let the cooks do the talking.

I noticed you have been late getting out to the plaza a few times recently. Did you stop for a potty break or something? Or do you have to wait for the end of the show for that? Watch that coffee intake, hahaha!

Do you ever feel "overexposed" on TV? Every knees apart, cleavage shot or general wardrobe malfunction that happens to you and Ann is posted online. By the way, you are beautiful in anything but that little orange sweater you wore last week should be tossed. You seemed to notice in the camera how tight it was and tried to adjust it. Can you change during a show if something isn't working? Those white tops you wear under everything look nice. Is it too nippy in the studio to just do without the too-tight jackets, if you know what I mean? Ann doesn't appear to wear anything under her suits, and didn't buttons come adrift on the plaza recently? Thanks for listening. Keep up the good work.

You had a Going Green interview on Monday that I would like to have more information on to purchase. In particular, the hand chargers for cell phones, the belts, the polartech mittens, and the checkbook all from recycled items and Smart Glass. Thanks

I love the carpool segment. It's kinda unrealistic with all the food though. And on very early morning (poor you). I think carpooling is more practical for those who live nearby each other. :)

Hi Meredith,
I enjoyed your work on the View and now enjoy watching you work with Matt, Al, and Anne. I watch you all just about every morning til I leave for work. My question to you is about politics- I received an email last week about Barach Obama, and was disturbed about something it contained. It stated that Barach, does not recite the Pledge of Alligence. I have seen video of him at events where he does not cover his heart nor does he say anything. If he refuses to recite a simple pledge, where does his alligence lie?? Immigrants becoming citizens must recite this pledge, what allows him an American the right to ignore this statement and be able to run for our highest office? If he ignores this simple example of our country what else will he ignore in office? I would love to hear your opinion and if you have the chance to ask him this question, I would love to hear his respone. I wonder if the american voters know this about him?

election time: Since Geo. W Bush WAS NOT ELECTED BY THE PEOPLE OF THE UNITED STATES, why do people vote?????????????

this was done by 'electoral votes only'....how can we change this so this DOES NOT HAPPEN again???

again, why do people vote, if their votes do not count??????

I adore the today and watch it EVERY morning until about 8:45ish. I always like Katie but I LOVE how you have added your own personality to the show. I love the show even more now! You and all the others seem so human which is really nice and refreashing. It is like having a cup of coffee in the morning with friends. But now for my question... WHERE IS LENNY!!!!?? I think it is so cool that he is there every morning and I haven't seen him lately. I am hoping and praying that everything is ok with him. He is like part of your little family and we miss seeing him. Can you guys please let us know if he is ok?? Thanks alot

Hi, Meredith, You are an attractive woman, but the clothes that the show puts you in make you look matronly. Why do they do this? I watch almost everyday and have been noticing that the styles are not right for you. I hope they make some changes. Thank you, don't be offended, please.

Hi Meredith,You and the people at the Today Show are doing such a terrific job. I know it must be tough sometimes taking in all the materials for the next show. I watch the Today Show every morning. Don't let anyone discourage you in any way you're doing great!!!!
