Going to Extremes
It was a wild day on the show – we had a guy jump out of a plane in a "squirrel suit" —Jeb Corliss took flight over Southern Florida—gliding for what seemed like an eternity before he finally opened his parachute and landed safely. Eventually he plans to ditch the parachute altogether (watch segment here). It was breathtaking to watch, but there’s no way I’d ever try this. I’m definitely Bullwinkle, not Rocky.
I had my own challenge today, anyway. Will Ferrell, who--you may remember-- dropped me on my head last March over at the ice skating rink at Rockefeller center, came back with a basketball. He and his co-star Woody Harrelson were here to promote their new movie Semi-Pro, about an ABA team in the 70’s trying to make it into the NBA. We thought it would be fun to challenge the guys to a pick upgame out on the plaza. Not that I didn’t come prepared with a "secret weapon": Nate Robinson, a guard for the NY Knicks, agreed to help me out (watch segment here).
What I realized 30 seconds into this game was how competitive we all really are. I was ready to take those guys down, and Will and Woody weren’t cutting me any slack. The good news is that nobody got hurt. And thanks to some fancy moves by Nate, we won—not that I’m gloating.
I’m off now to Giada De Laurentiis’ baby shower. She is due this spring, as is Janice Lieberman, another one of our Today contributors—and we couldn’t be happier for them. That’s what’s cooking around here…
I’ll be watching the Democratic debate tonight, which takes place in Cleveland. It may be snowing like crazy there but it’ll be plenty hot in the auditorium. Any predictions on the outcome?

Meredith,
It was so nice to meet you last Friday morning at the Loews Hotel on Miami Beach - you were so gracious to sign your blog titled " Our Menagerie" It is so touching and reminds me of my own life and my animals. I now have the blog signed by you and framed hanging on the wall of my office, thanks for signing the photo also, and you and I had a few words about Jasper and his antics behind the sofa! I really enjoyed seeing you and the whole Today Show gang. It was as if I went to visit some good friends. Hope to visit you agian when I attend a conference in NYC in June.
Best Regards,
Bill Harris
Hi Meredith:
I watch the Today Show everyday, and now that I see how competitive you are, I understand why sometimes you talk over the top of other folks on the show, including your co-workers. A perspective from my side of the screen.
Thanks,
I think that Hillary is going to do very well at the debate tonight. This will be the first election I can vote in, and I'm definately voting for Hillary. I went to see her husband speak recently was very impressed. This was the first rally I've ever attended, and I had no idea what to expect. The place was packed with students and everyone was cheering and waving their "We've got your back, Hillary" signs. Mr. Clinton's such a captivating speaker and gives hope for the future of our country. All of my friends and I are so excited now! We support Hillary and want her to win the Democratic nomination!
Obama is going to "hook" himself this time unconcsiously, and as quick as he realizes it, Hillary will be on top and all over what happens! Leaving Obama with a look of "what just happened here?"
have a great evening!
Linda
The only winner can be...Hillary.
My Tivo failed me today, so I didn't get to watch the show, but it sounds like it was fun! I'm currently torn in the race for the White House. I've decided I really don't like any of the candidates (Republican or Democrat). The debate will still be interesting tonight though. My guess is that Senator Clinton will win the debate, but there's no telling if she'll win the primaries in Texas and Ohio.
Meredith,
I've read you knit. I'm in love with the red knitted? scarf you wore Tuesday, with your black coat. Did you make it?
Where can I find the pattern? If purchased, would you share the store name (if you know it)
Thanks for reading,
Ann
My 16 year old daughter called it more than a year ago. She said "Mommy black men got the right to vote before women did". Her conclusion from this fact was that a black man would be a presidential candidate before a woman would be.
Humm.
I saw your interview today about the man that was unfortunately killed after the shark dive.
You were downright rude to the man being interviewed.
You then went on to refer to Jeb Corliss as "amazing".
These men each made choices about their own lives. The man jumping from the plane could just as easily be killed. Would you then have the same attitude towards the pilot of the plane?
Hi Meredith,
I watched the game of basketball and you were pretty darn good. I wouldn't stand a chance against you and I bet there are more then a few guys who wouldn't fair too well either.
I just saw the segment with the cast from Murphy Brown and had to tell you that I loved that show and all of the people who starred in it. I especially loved Murphy's live in painter who I heard died years ago of a drug overdose, he was so funny and fit that part perfectly.
Have a great week, Meredith
Love ya

Hi Meredith! I love watching you every weekday morning on TODAY.
I have a question for you- It's been so fun to see the TV casts get back together on the show. If you could chat with cast of any other show, who would you like to sit down with? I would love to talk to the cast of Friends or Seinfeld!
Luv ya!
