Spring Fever

It was so great to have REM perform on the plaza today—it made all of us feel like Spring is finally here. Once the outdoor concerts begin, everybody seems to smile a lot more.

Given that it’s April 1st, the producers and I brainstormed all morning before the show to come up with some sort of prank to get Matt—everything from a phony story about how Purell doesn’t really work (since he’s a self-proclaimed germaphobe), to my pretending to spill coffee all over him (I know it sounds juvenile, but it was 5:30am…). In the end we realized there’s nothing we could do to trick the guy, because he is the king of practical jokes.

But enough about Matt. I need to focus on George Clooney--he's coming on the show Thursday to promote his new football movie Leatherheads. I don’t know if I've got a case of Spring Fever but if George would like to re-create that tackle scene in the mud…oh, boy, here I go again—I guess it’s time to take off my false eyelashes and shut down this computer before I really get into trouble.

But before I go, I do have an announcement that I’ve been putting off—tomorrow will be the last day that I write this blog. Although it has been a great forum for me to express some thoughts and stories and a way for me to connect with so many of you, my schedule has really made it difficult to blog on a regular basis. I have read your posts, and have seen many of you express your disappointment that my blogging has been so inconsistent—I don’t want to complain about my schedule because I have a great job, but now that Millionaire will be starting up again, I don’t see how I can ‘do it all’ as they say.

So…unfortunately, the blog has to go. Thank you for hanging out here. I’ll be back tomorrow with some final thoughts.

I am sad to read that you won't be blogging any more because I really enjoyed reading your blog- sometimes it is what got me through my day. I always looked forward to see what you had to write. Thank you for writing for the past year and a half, it was great to get to know you a little bit better. I think you are an incredible woman, very inspirational and I hope to meet one day on the plaza. Keep up the awesome work at the Today Show! I love watching you every morning!

Thanks and all the best!
Peggy

Meredith, I hope you reconsider your decision and blog again, even only occasionally. I really enjoyed your stories. All those obnoxious whiners (they know who they are)just ruined a good thing for the rest of us. Hope you change your mind at some later point.

PLEASE don't stop writing the blog. How about just a once in a blue moon post to stay in touch. ALways the best to you!

Sorry to read you wont be blogging anymore Meredith. Even though I was one of the those who became frustrated by the lack of new updates, I've always enjoyed popping in to find new posts.

Thanks for taking the time out of your busy schedule and good luck.

Meredith-
Too funny...this is the first day I read your blog...I would have had I known, because when your are not on the Today I miss seeing you. Doing a great job and so glad the 4th hour is getting spiced up with Kathie Lee because I really haven't enjoyed The View anymore...seems the lack of interest in all people is missing and the real humor (not at the sake of someone else... like Joy's) I enjoy Whoppie just not worth my time. Love the idea that I can stay on Channel 5 !!! No worries...you are busy ...keep doing what you do best !!! Thanks.

I really enjoy reading the blog and I admit that I do miss it when you don't have time, but PLEASE reconsider and try to do at least once a week or something of that sort. It is truly nice to read here.

I really hope this is a April fools joke about the blog. I enjoy reading your blog when you post.

Hi Meredith!

I am very sad to hear that you are quitting the blog.

How about instead of quitting--just write once or twice a week? I could be happy with that---a little is better than nothing with your busy schedule.

Won't you reconsider?

You are forgiven as long as you keep wearing dresses and showing off your sexy gams.

Out fox the Fox News Network.....wear shorter skirts and let America know whose legs rock!

I was also frustrated at the inconsistent blogging but understood you were doing the best you could.

Stay the way you are....you are aging so gracefully.

Meredith,
I have loved your bloggings. I missed hearing about your own thoughts and family since you have left the View. This has been a way to keep in touch. Mothers connect. Enjoy your family time. I hope you will decide that you can resume your blog, even if it's occasional or "after" the taping season of Millionaire. Warm wishes.

She has to be joking. It is April fools. She would never stop and the game show does not start taping till the fall all her shows are done for now. Please she would never leave us she is the queen of AM TV and this is the way to keep in contact with the real people who watch her. We love you and can not wait to see the next blog....

Is this your April Fool's Joke for all of us your loyal fans?? And another thing, is the tag that flew across the screen on my tv correct? It read that Kathie Lee Gifford is coming to the Today Show?? Oh, barf!! I have switched the channel at breakneck speed when she's ever been on. Please, please, please tell me it's April Fool's on all of us!!!!?

Jaime said:

NOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!

Say it ain't so.....

I feel that this blog allows you to share stories and such like you did on The View. The format of Today does not allow for such things.

Seriously, Meredith I literally cried when you left the View. You and the other ladies saw me thru two miscarriages.

You are great on Today and I'll continue to watch while geting ready for work.

I am amazed that you were able to keep blogging as long as you did. That's a tremendous responsibility and you have more than enough with the shows, the family, and your well being. So personally, I thank you very much for all the blogs and rest assured, I will continue to enjoy the TODAY show and the MILLIONAIRE, both made all the better because of your presence.

What a bummer! For someone who didn't read the blog everyday, and just checked in when i needed a break from work, i was never bothered by the inconsistency...there was usually a new one every time i checked it out. You do seem like a really busy person, however, and it's understandable that something's gotta go. I hope you'll check back in from time to time.

Thanks!

It's such a shame (but understandable) that you'll be no longer continuing with the blog. I know what a busy lady you are but you're also a wonderful writer Meredith. You've often put a smile on my face with your stories and wonderful sense of humour. Thank-you Meredith!

Debra said:

Oh Meredith...PLEASE DON'T STOP!!! I think your blogging is awesome. I don't mind that you have to take time away from it. I understand that you are busy, but I will miss you. Your blog helps to get me through alot of days...maybe you could blog occassionally???

The people who complained have ruined a good thing.

I guess I will just have to look forward to the half hour that I get to watch of you in the morning before work. Sorry you are stopping.

I will miss YOU!!

Hi Meredith, like the rest of the readers I'm hoping it's an april's fools joke because I love reading your blog. The posts are an inspiration and daily reminder for me to live and love well. I don't live in the US so I don't get to watch Today so your blog is one of the ways I keep abreast of news. Regardless, I understand you must be very busy, guess I'll have to stream Today online! We'll certainly miss your presence! Should you decide to come back to blogging, you've got a ready audience waiting for you. Good luck and all the very best to you.
