June 17, 2008

I'm heading to the train with Matt and our executive producer Jim Bell. We're going to Washington, D.C. for Tim Russert's wake, and will be broadcasting from the bureau there tomorrow.

I will check in when I get back. In the meantime, I hope you all say a prayer for the Russert family.

I have never really followed politics, and quite frankly, never really understood a lot about what goes on in the political world. I did, however, enjoy watching Tim because he was always so clear and presented politics in a way I never imagined was possible- politics actually were interesting coming from him. That happens when someone is passionate about what they are talking about, and I could always tell that he was so excited to be talking politics. I will never forget the dry erase board; what an ingenious way to bring politics down to my level! My prayers are definitely with the Russert family.

My prayers are with the Russert family. I was so sad to hear of the news, and cried during the broadcast Sunday. My husband, however, is devastated -- Russert was his political icon and he majored in political science because Russert gave him that passion.

He will be remembered!

Travel safe, and I hope you come back at the end of the week -- I'm going to be at the show on Thursday and Friday!! I'm so excited.

Hey Meredith. I'm young and still getting used to the whole swing of politics, but Tim made it so much easier to understand. He put things into perspective so even I could understand them. I found out about his passing when I was watching Jay Leno and could not believe it. I cried for Tim because I was so used to seeing him on Today every week and I looked forward to his view on things. He will be greatly missed in my household. Looking forward to the broadcast tomorrow. Have a safe trip with Matt and Jim : )

The story you did this morning on sexual harassment is important. The man who brought the case against Vons was accurate when he explained how it happens....and I've seen it happen. The woman professes to be a "tactile" person and is quick to touch everyone in the office..."just being friendly" (in her words). This makes it look less predatory when she begins to more frequently touch the man she has targeted. She'll gradually come up with many different situations that involve close contact between her and the man. She doesn't care if the man is married or if he has a carload of kids. Thanks for profiling the female predator. She does exist even though she may be masquerading as just a "friendly" colleague.

My prayers are with all of the Russert family as well as with his multitude of friends and coworkers. He will certainly be missed. I only knew him as a TV viewer but have certainly shed tears during the past few days over the loss of him.
I could almost see him looking down and smiling as Luke spoke so eloquently on the TODAY program. It was quite obvious that Luke and his Dad will always have a strong bond.

God Bless You Tim Russert and family, my thoughts are with you. I didn't know Tim except to see him on TV but I knew he was a good man just hearing all the wonderful things he did and what a great Dad and Son he was. His family has got to be so proud of him.
We will all miss you Tim.

A 500 year storm event is one with the intensity that is so strong the storm could only occure once every 500 years
So on 100 year storm event, 50 year, 25 year. Ask a civil engineer.

Have a nice day

It's amazing how much Tim's death has had an impact on me. I am a resident of Nantucket Island, Massachusetts where Tim and his family have a home. The Russerts are also members of our parish, Saint Mary Our Lady of the Isle Catholic Church. Tim has always given so much to our community. He has been the emcee for our annual Boston Pops Concert to benefit Nantucket Cottage Hospital, and has also taken stage for the annual concert to benefit the Nantucket Boys and Girls Club. You would never know that he was a "celebrity" when he was on Island. You would see him walking in town just like the rest of us, getting a newspaper and a cup of coffee. Our community is mourning the loss of Tim Russert and our prayers, love and sympathy go to his family, friends and co-workers. There's a hole in my heart but I know that Tim is in heaven watching down on all of us. God bless you all and thank you for the wonderful coverage you have given us.

The entire NBC operation has handled Tim Russart's untimely passing with dignity, compassion, professionalism, and, yes, humor. All of the tributes, including those from other networks, have been heartfelt and beautifully done. What a superb colleague he has been to all. Thank you very much for bringing so much of this extraordinary man's life to the forefront at this very difficult time. Matt's interview with Luke was so poignant that I'm certain many tears were shed in living rooms across America. God bless.........

The coverage and tributes provided by you and everyone at the Today Show and the NBC network is and has been outstanding. The impact that Tim had on politics and news will be greatly missed and always admired. We definitely lost a great part of politics and wisdom with his passing. It will never be the same witout him...

Safe travels.

Meredith, would you be able to reiterate the story that Mario Cuomo shared about the seatbelts? - The audio dropped out of the middle of the story! How about that Luke? That young man surely has my vote for President whenever he decides to run. A credit to his parents through and through. He posseses a quality that can't be taught, just like his dad. Glad you were there.

Kathi said:

you also need to decompress, you've had a lot of emotional stuff on your plate in the last two weeks!

Death is nothing at all. I have only slipped away into the next room. I am I, and you are you. Whatever we were to each other, that we still are. Call me by my old familiar name, speak to me in the easy way that you always used. Put no difference in your tone, wear no forced air of solemnity or sorrow. Laugh as we always laughed at the little jokes we enjoyed together. Play, smile, think of me, pray for me. Let my name be ever the household word that it always was, let it be spoken without effect, without the trace of a shadow on it.

Life means all that it ever meant. It is the same as it ever was; there is unbroken continuity. Why should I be out of mind because I am out of sight? I am waiting for you, for an interval, somewhere very near, just round the corner.

All is well.

I have to tell you something that's really on my mind!
If your personality in real life is anything like your public personality
your adventure ,wiliness to try ,laugh, and of course your looks
well than all i have to say is that i love you !

Be confident in the fact that so many, many people are praying for the Russert family [both biological and those in Tim's NBC family]. The posters are correct in suggesting that everyone may be in need of some personal reflection and decompress time. You have all handled this tragedy with such grace, compassion, and professionalism. Tim Russert,Jr. is I am sure, proud. Thanks those of you who gave us those poems and quotes~very comforting.

I just wanted to let you know, Meredith, that "cup runneth over" is NOT in the Lord's prayer as you stated when referring to Tim Russert,

Meredith.. I am one of those people that didnt know Tim but, I am also one of those people that are inspired by him. At the age of 14 I find myself not being able to turn the TV off. I have watched the Today show everyday for a while. Everytime Tim was on the show he always brought politics down to an understandable level.. I loved that.. Tim and a lot of other journalist have inspired me to become a journalist when I get older! He will greatly be missed!

Meredith,

Meet the Press will never be the same. My husband and I would try to catch it on Sunday mornings, but with three children 4 and under it was sometimes impossible. When we did watch it was great. Tim made politics easy to understand and for that I will be forever grateful. This upcoming election season will not be the same with out him.

I hope his family will find some comfort in the passing days and months. It will not be easy but their faith will carry them.

For Tim- An Irish Blessing-
May the road rise up to meet you.
May the wind be always at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face;
the rains fall soft upon your fields and until we meet again,
may God hold you in the palm of His hand.

Christine Mulligan

P.S. How about that Rainbow? What a nice way to end such a wonderful tribute to a nice man. RIP Tim Russert

" Where Were You When"............! I dont reamber what I was doing when we got the new's that "Hank Williams", pased away. I do reamber that I was in 4th grade, and a lady came in and told my teacher what had happenrd, they hug'ed, gasped, and my teacher got a TV, and the rest of the day we watched what was being show'ed to all of us. JFK, stoped the world, as we knew it, and we had to get past the loss, and move on. It, "Took Our Breath Away", and some how, we neaver got past losing a Icon, that just can not be replaced. There is two more days that stay's in my mind, and thats when the "Space Shutlle", blew-up, on lift off, and on that God Awfull Day, " 911"...........! Now, last friday, it was during the 5:00, news, right before Bryian Williams came on, when KY-3 said that Timm Russert, and pass'ed away from a Hart Atack..................! My world stoped but Once Again ! 911, I watched as Tom Broka was live, and in his ear piece was told that the 2nd tower was just hit, we saw it 3 sec. before he knew it. He did admit, it took his bottle of Jack, under his desk to get threw that day, and night. I'll bet it happened for more than just me, last Friday too. What ya'll was doing last Friday, when we got the word, will stay with us, for "EVER".............! God, how could Tim do this to us.....?????? God took Tim, when God need'ed him. It's not our call, nor is it Tim's call. If you dident believe thAre is a God, you sure should now.........! We have no say to when it's our turn. We forget that we are here for just a very short time. God's time is for Ever. Our time here on Earth, is but a blink of time as we know it. WHAT, Do we do next.........! Tim would say, "Hey" Ya'll have yr hands full, to cover my spot, and ya better get to it. My new asignment is "Gona Be Big"........! You guy's know what to do, in my place, and I hope Luke, will "Pinch-Hit", for me come Elections. Ya'll know he will be sitting in my chair, and useing my board. I cant be thAre, but Luke can, and all of you will feel my present's, threw Luke. If he's there, im there. I may be gone, but my family know's what has to be done, and they will "Sub" for me, wile im "On A signment".........! Folk's, This Is Gona Be Big"................"Go Get Em Luke".............! I need you now, more that ever. You know what to do, I'll be "Coaching You On Every Word"...........! Dont for get, we will be togeather again one day. It's just I got here before you, and im getting everything just right, for the day you get to see my "New Desk"...................! Tim

To Katie f. what is wrong with you anyway, if you think anyone is impressed that you have to correct Meredith, guess again, you are rude and just plain stupid. If you can do better lets see you get Meredith's job. You must do this just to make yourself look better, didn't work though, you look stupid.
