TODAY's Wedding
LaDonna and Darnell got married on our plaza this morning. The Atlanta couple exchanged vows before family and friends... and several million viewers. (Relive their race to the altar here).
They were both so poised and sincere I found myself tearing up. Call me a sentimental fool, but I hope I always cry at weddings. It beats going through life a cynic.
Richard and I got hitched 22 years ago--in the backyard of our garden apartment (the "garden" consisted of vases with flowers because it was a brick space). We had a sheet cake and a boom box for music. Any party planner might have laughed at how slapped together it seemed. But it was perfect for us.
I don't think you can help reminiscing about your own big day when you are sharing someone else's. So thank you, LaDonna and Darnell, for a beautiful day, and thanks for the memories.
Here’s to you Mr. And Mrs. Suggs…

I loved the blue dress Meredith had on today for the wedding. Anybody know where to get it?
I loved the shoes you were wearing today. What is the brand and the color? It was an awesome look!
Hi Meredith
You looked wonderful today. I also sat in front of the television in tears. I have been married for twenty-two years and I was so excited to see these two young people start their journey. I really enjoy the show especially the family-like relationship that you all seem to share. Continue the wonderful job that you do! Please say hi to the other members of the wonderful Today show!
Are the members of the crew on the show encouraged to provide a laugh track? Many times they laugh when it's not funny.
Good Morning Meredith,
I thought everyone did a wonderful job in picking everything for the wedding. LaDonna and Darnell both looked amazing. I have to say I started to get tears in my eyes watching. It was just beautiful!! I too am a sentimental fool when it comes to weddings.
I also have to say that you looked terrific in the dress you were wearing!!!
I suppose some enjoy these weddings on Today, or you wouldnt have done them for so many years. I however tire of the whole 'reality' tv aspeact of it and would rather stick to the news or other human interest stories.
But, that said... Congrats to the happy couple.
Yes, LaDonna and Darnell's wedding was so beautiful and their first dance was heartwarming.
did you and Richard have a very small group of people at your weddng? Being the only girl in your family, did your parents want you to have a big wedding? But I do respect that you did what you wanted to do and still have good memories of it.
I love weddings -- I always cry too. Odd that I didn't cry at my own, though!
I always love the Today Show wedding, it seems like such a leap for them to find out they won and get married two weeks later! But then they've got everything picked out -- so that's so nice!
What a great opportunity to give to some of your viewers. I'm sure their "special" day was made that much more special by having the Today Show involved.
Hi Meredith,
I remember when you talked about your wedding on The View, I think this was when Starr Jones was having her monster of a wedding and look what happened to her. It sure doesn't make a marriage better by spending thousands of dollars. You know that you and Richard will be together till death do you part even if you had a radio and a sheet cake, that is my kind of a wedding
Hugs

Glad to see you got to China and back OK. Was reading up on the blog postings. It was interesting reading about your problems getting your visa straightened out. Thought that only happened to those of us who aren't world travellers. Interesting comment that it might have made a more interesting blog posting if you went ahead to China and risked getting deported. Probably good you didn't given what happened to that Chinese man at our end. Would have been a bit shocking to see you hauled off in handcuffs. Actually, I did see it happen once -- a cop did a phony "arrest" of you on that other program you used to be on. Just as long as it wasn't for real. :-)
Keep up the good work. What's the next big world trip?
Meredith,
I'd like to hear your opinion on the comment Kathy Lee Gifford make during the wedding segment where she said "nasty, bad pagans". As paganism is alive and well today, and the fastest growing religious movement in the United States, she has caused quite an uproar in the pagan community with her statement.
Whether she did it out of malice or ignorance, it deserves an apology, and not a "blanket apology to those I've insulted, you know who you are".
Replace the word "pagan" with "Jew" or "blacks" and there would have been an immediate and direct apology made.
I'd love to hear your take on this matter.
Hi Meredith,
I have to second what Kris said above. I have enjoyed the Today show for years, but after a comment like Kathy Lee's I found myself physically ill. Her statement was uninformed and reflected very poorly on the entire show. Please pass along to the Powers That Be at the show that a huge chunk of your audience, and the public in general is very upset by this!
Hoping for an on-air apology...
Hello Meredith,
I agree with the others that Kathy Lee's statment about Pagan's deserves a public apology. She has overstepped her bounds on this one. Having an oppinion is one thing but voicing that oppinion on national television is only asking for trouble.
Keep up the good work.
